High Point is a city located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. According to the United States Census Bureau, High Point had a total population of 104,371 as of 2010, making it the ninth-largest city in North Carolina. Most of the city is located in Guilford County, with small portions of it spilling into neighboring Randolph, Davidson, and Forsyth counties.

Settled before 1750, High Point was incorporated in 1859 when it’s most important industries were tobacco, woodworking and textiles. Because High Point was located at the intersection of the North Carolina Railroad the Great Western Plank Road, it became a transportation hub which led to it’s growth as a manufacturing center in the late 1800’s when it’s first of many furniture factories was opened in 1889.

High Point is sometimes referred to as the “Furniture Capital of the World” due to the semi-annual High Point Market that attracts 100,000 exhibitors and buyers from around the world.

High Point is also home High Point University, a private Methodist-affiliated institution founded in 1924. With a current enrollment of 4,200 undergraduate and graduate students from 46 states and 27 countries.
